I am in Fethiye, Turkey and went to a traditional Turkish Bath (Hamam). It was absolutely amazing. One of the best things I have ever done! In this review, I will write about my experience.
We went on a Sunday at 3 pm in November. No one except our group was there. It was amazing. Now, our whole group was women so I don't know what happens when men do it. However, you can either go naked or in a swimsuit. We all went in bikinis. I have put the link to the place below.
When you arrive you will enter a beautiful entry room. There is a changing room with lockers (you don’t have to pay for the locker) where you can lock up your stuff. You change into your swimsuit and then put on these sandal shoes they give you.
Next, you go into the main Hamam room. From there, you go into the steam room. I’m not entirely sure if that’s what it’s called but it’s kind of like a sauna. It’s super hot and steamy. At first, it’s a little hard to breathe because of all the steam but you do get used to it.
I went with a friend who is my age. We discovered that we can open the taps and make cold water come out not just hot (one tap is hot one is cold). We used the bowls on the taps to splash cold water on us which helped a lot with the heat.
After sitting for about twenty minutes two ladies came in. We decided my friend and I would go first then after that our Moms would go. We went and laid down on the marble first. They tossed this amazingly warm water on top of us. Then they took these glove clothes and rubbed them on us.
The clothes kind of hurt and were kind of scratchy but in a really good way. These gloves are to rub off all the dead skin. It’s amazing to see the skin. Once they finish scrubbing you down with the gloves they splash more water over you.
The next bit is the best out of the whole experience. The bubbles!!!!!!!!!! They take these pillowcase-like cloth bags and cover them in bubbles. They rub the bags all over you and get you so bubbly. You become entirely completely covered in bubbles.
After that, you are splashed with water again. Finally, you have the option to wash your hair: do it!! It’s wonderful and the shampoo smells so good.
When your Hamam is done you can add on a massage and more stuff. Like at the beginning, you can add on a mud mask. You also get a free Turkish or Apple Tea (I recommend the apple).
So that is my review of a traditional Turkish bath. I really advise going: it’s completely worth it.
